| The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, having established in 1906 and incorporated by an act of parliament as the apex engineering professional body in Sri Lanka, gained international recognition by obtaining full membership of the prestigious engineers’ mobility forum in year 2007. As a result IESL members are now recognized and authorized to practice as professional engineers across the globe (present membership 14,000).The first inaugural exhibition under the name of “electro-Techno” was organized in 1985 by the Electrical Engineering Sectional Committee of the IESL on the initiative of its chairman Eng. Joe Varnakulasinghe and its secretary Eng. R J Gunawardena, and the event was sponsored by Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd. After the inaugural year in 1985, techno celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, being the best exhibition of its nature in Sri Lanka. IESL membership along with the local, regional and worldwide public participation commemorated the 25th anniversary contributing to the well being of the human kind, standing according to its mission, bringing out and unleashing country’s multi-disciplinary engineering talents to drive Sri Lanka into technological excellence for revolutionary uplifting of people’s living conditions and prosperity. |
